History OF THE c.m.e cHURCH
“On December 15, 1870, in Jackson, Tennessee, the youngest daughter of Methodism was born at a Church called “LIBERTY” where the first organizing general conference was held. It was there that a giant step toward liberty, freedom and dignity was taken by the (then called) Colored Methodist Episcopal Church”. The name was changed to Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in 1954.

THE HISTORY OF
ST. PETERS CME CHURCH
ST. PETER'S C.M.E CHURCH aka SAINT PETER'S CHAPEL, CHRISTIAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH“...... and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it."
Saint Peters Chapel is believed to be the oldest active church in Jensen Beach. The present building is probably the second structure that housed the church. A small church that sits on a hill at the comer of County Line Road and Savannah Road, in the Mars Hill Community (Tick Ridge for you old timers). For many years it was the only structure for holding religious services in the community. According, to some of the original members of the community, the building served two religious' denominations. It is my understanding that the Christian Methodist and the Baptist would alternate Sundays. The original structure has seen gradual changes over the years and the upgrades have been minor in terms of modernization. Because this church embodies the strength, work ethic, morals and history, of so many of the original settlers that made Tick Ridge a community.
